Political bosses and machines and their constituents ?

Political bosses would often take the names of people who were already registered to vote and whose names were on the voting records, but they had died or moved away and no longer voted. Immigrants were hired to pretend they were these voters, and they were provided with phony identification when they went to vote. Often, the people in charge of the polling places were paid by the Political Bosses (machine) and allowed those people to vote, even though they knew they were not citizens. In some cases, names were taken off of tomb stones of citizens who had been natural born citizens. It was an early form of identity theft.
