Why do most ignore the old testament?

Many Christians wrongly believe that Jesus did away with the law and they believe that they don't have to obey the Old Testament when Jesus clearly states that to have life we must keep the commandments. What Jesus did was fulfil the messianic prophecies, and His sacrifice did away with the Levitical priesthood, sacrifices, physical temple and the old rituals that are not required under the new covenant.
