What would be an appropriate gift for my Spanish homestay hostess?

I'm going to be living with a middle-aged woman in Spain for a few months starting in a week or so and I thought it would be a nice gesture to bring her a gift. I was thinking a bottle of wine might be a good idea, since it is simple and maybe more practical than some touristy trinket from Chicago. Does anyone have any experience with a situation like this?
